A comprehensive hearing screening test checks the entire auditory pathway by looking at both the ear and the brain's response to sound. It combines a quick inner-ear echo test with gentle skin sensors that track brainwave activity when a baby hears a sound. This two-part check ensures that sound waves travel perfectly from the physical ear, down the hearing nerve, and all the way to the brain. Automated Auditory Brainstem Response (AABR) screening and Distortion Product Otoacoustic Emissions (DPOAE) screening is highly recommended for at-risk infants in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) or in regions with early post-discharge.
